Tired eyes? Apply this tip to relax them

Surely you also start the day looking good, with your eyes rested and ready to work. The hours go by between work, checking messages and a little bit of social media and by the afternoon you feel like you've got a good night's sleep:

  • Burning and tearing
  • Heavy eyelids
  • Dream
  • Blurred or strained vision

Why do your eyes feel tired?

Imagine if your job was to walk as long as you use the computer, how would your feet look? The obvious answer is tired and sore, unless you take breaks from time to time to relax them.

In the eyes it works the same way since we have 6 external muscles and one internal muscle working so that you can perform your daily visual functions. These muscles instead of resting by sitting down -like the feet-, they relax by looking as far as possible.

The best tip

It's that every 20 minutes, you have to look 20 feet away, for 20 seconds.

If because of your type of work you can't time the 20 minutes, apply this:

Every time you finish a task, report or activity in close-up vision, look as far as you can within your work area and count to twenty.

That's it! This way you avoid interrupting the creative flow. If what you have to do is very long (that includes watching a movie on your cell phone), we suggest you set an alarm to pause at least every 30 minutes.

In addition to the eyes...

...Think about the well-being of your whole body. Our daily dynamics require us to spend more and more time sitting in front of an electronic device. How much did you run throughout the day as a child vs. now? How much do your children or nieces and nephews run during the day? You should know that eyestrain and general fatigue is not just from reading on the computer, it's from sitting time.

To help you keep the impact of daily work, especially on electronic devices, as low as possible:

  • Watch your posture. If you slouch, your cervical vertebrae (neck vertebrae) are receiving more weight than they should. Try to be upright.
  • Move around in your seat. By standing up, even next to your chair, you activate your circulation, which greatly benefits your legs.
  • Take breaks from the cell phone. This way you rest your fingers and your neck. That means that when you go for coffee, leave the phone on your stand. You can also look for tips on how to take care of your posture when using your cell phone.

There are many pages on Instagram or on the web that offer you exercises and stretches for the break, here we share two:
